[NWHL, CWHL, SDHL] The Champions Cup the Fans Really Want

Earlier this week, the NWHL and SDHL announced a breaking new international fixture that will feature the winners of their respective leagues going head to head against each other in a best of three series, dubbed the Champions Cup. This will take place in September in Sweden between the Metropolitan Riviters and Luleå HF (more info on Luala can be found here). However it is not quite the sort of Champions Cup that most fans were hoping for.

However, it seems that it’s not only their off-ice product that is seeing major improvements. 11th November NWHL Roundup – Rivs Roll On

After seeing off Buffalo, 6-2 in Rochester last week, the Metropolitan Riveters looked to complete the sweep of the other three teams this weekend. Meanwhile Boston were still searching for their first win of the year to avoid dropping three games in a row, something that has never happened in franchise history.

28th October NWHL Roundup – Season Opener and Records o’ Plenty

NWHL hockey is back, and back with a bang as over 2,000 fans were in attendance (a NWHL record) to watch the newly named Metropolitan Riveters take on the Boston Pride in the first ever NWHL game to be held in an NHL arena. Meanwhile, the defending champions, the Buffalo Beauts, traveled to the Connecticut Whale’s new home in Stamford to start their campaign.

NWHL Best Offensive Defensive Player 2016/17

Next up in my OTBL Awards for the NWHL’s regular season is the best ‘Offensive Defensive Player’. This is an award that looks for the players from the blue line who can add a bit of firepower along with their defensive duties. First of all I will be considering their production numbers, but will also take into account the line mates that they have been playing with, along with their contribution to the power play.
